Julia Taylor and Dave Goss realized their dream of a world trip by sailboat which began on May 1, 2004 and ended exactly seven years to the day back in Jamestown, Rhode Island. They traveled aboard the 40 foot wooden sailboat Macy via the "milk route", traveling west through the Panama Canal. Taylor had dreamed of going around the world in a sailboat since she was a child, and took a job at the Conanicut Yacht Club in order to work around the boats.
The father of a childhood friend helped her to custom build Macy, which took about two years. Complications arose at various times during the trip, which involved a lot of time at sea. The longest passage was 24 days from the Galapagos islands to the Marquesas, but they were fortunate to have good passages most of the time. Taylor said that New Zealand was her favorite stop on the trip, and she also enjoyed the Galapagos, Tahiti and the Marquesas.
